Welcome to Kung Fu Wushu Queensland

Kung Fu Wushu Queensland is the official Queensland organisation that is a member of Kung Fu Wushu Australia (KWA). KWA is recognised by the Federal Government, via the Australian Sports Commission, as the National Sporting Organisation (NSO) governing Chinese Martial Arts (Kung Fu, Wushu, Tai Chi) in Australia.

"Kung Fu", which translates literally as "Hard Work" is the popular term in Southern China and the western world that refers to the Chinese Martial Arts. When first brought to the western world by the likes of Bruce Lee, the term stuck and has been used as recognition to the Chinese Martial Arts but is now used more often to relate to the traditional style of the Chinese Martial Arts.

Tai Chi is considered a soft style martial art, an art applied with a complete relaxation. This art is often practised for the purposes of health and longevity and but also as a sport. Tai Chi is well known as one of the slow motion routines that groups of people practice every morning in hundreds of parks across China and, recently, other parts of the world.

Sanda (also known as Sanshou) is a modern hand to hand competitive combative sport characterised by quick and powerful punches, kicks and most notably, throws. Sanda utilises gloves amongst other protective gear and bouts are undertaken on a raised platform called a lei tai.
